I have not been asked to provide this letter but would like to express my thanks for the work of Erik Jensen and Sprucehill Contracting. Erik was recommended by word of mouth and I would
like, in turn, to pass on my recommendation for his services.
From mid-April to mid-June 2011, Erik performed an extensive but sympathetic renovation of our heritage warehouse apartment on Alexander Street in Gastown. The work included gutting
both bathrooms to stud, installing new drywalls, showers, shower tiling, toilets and vanities, and
heated floor below a complex heritage floor tiling pattern which was laid beautifully. Outside the
bathrooms, work included a new interior wall, pocket doors, new baseboards and door surrounds,
new painting throughout, and rewiring of wall heaters, fans and lighting.
Of particular note was the pre-renovation consultation, for which Erik brought in an interior
designer colleague. The two together made an excellent team and provided superb advice, both
design and practical, resulting in some substantial improvements to the apartment making it much
more liveable (and eventually saleable). This included advising space saving pocket doors, bathroom design, paint design, heating design, door surround design, and a new wall to create a
walk-in-closet. Also appreciated was the professional and patient manner in which Erik walked
me through the implications of some of my own unwise ideas.
Erik’s team of sub-contractors was a solid crew of reliable and courteous professionals with good
experience and lots of good ideas of their own. Of particular note were the general foreman, the
electrical sub, and the tiling sub. Minor issues were addressed quickly in a fair manner. We were
living in the front room throughout the process, which made the job more complicated for both
the workers and ourselves. However, the environment was controlled well and the disturbance
and dust was within reasonable levels.
Communication was always excellent, and Erik took my calls and replied to emails very fast. Erik
helped walk me through the process and the costs of my decisions. Invoicing was regular and the
initial quote was accurate and reasonable. His contacts presented a range of costs from basic to
higher end materials and fixtures and were always happy to see efficiencies made. Any comments
and requests I made were always well-received and considered.
I am very pleased with the final product. The renovation work is good quality from a reliable and
pleasant contractor with good subs. I have no hesitation in recommending Erik and will be using
Sprucehill again for my future reno work. I am happy to confirm this recommendation either by
email or verbally.

In the fall of 2009, Sprucehill Contracting contracted to renovate our home. We found that
the subcontractors and personnel employed by Sprucehill Contracting were very professional in
the manner they conducted their work. The work was done efficiently and the premises were kept
clean of all debris and materials.
Erik was responsible for organizing and coordinating all the work to be done and this was done
to our satisfaction. Any problems or difficulties were dealt with immediately and corrected in
a timely manner. Erik was responsive to our concerns and we would certainly use his service again
if they were required.

Sprucehill did an amazing job repairing and rebuilding our deck. Erik has high quality standards but is also very practical, which resulted in our project being finished on time, under budget, and beyond our expectations. He did a great job understanding what we wanted, offered great advice during planning, and was always available to answer questions.
Erik was on-site very frequently during the work phase and verified the quality of work at every step. The crew was professional and considerate. They took care to protect the rest of our property and cleaned up the site every night.
We will definitely call Sprucehill for my next project.

My new apartment was old, it needed everything: washer/dryer, dishwasher, garburator, cabinets, flooring & upgrades to both plumbing & electrical. I called Sprucehill. Erik's no nonsense character reassured me that I was in good hands. From beginning to end he communicated thoroughly. We spoke about wishlists & realities, budget & expectations. We went back & forth until we came to a plan that made sense to both of us.
From the start, Erik's experience & professionalism were useful. My place is in an apartment building run by a Strata. Erik was able to connect with various people in regards to access & permissions. He also lay down plastic sheets in the common area to keep it clean & my neighbours happy.
The guys Erik brought in to work on my place were profesional & friendly. Updates through out the project helped make me feel comfortable that things were proceeding as planned. Erik gave honest, professional opinions on what needed to be done & how it could get done within the timeline & budget plan. In the end, the results were awesome.
I've since moved in & hosted my first dinner party. My friends were very impressed with the improvements. Most importantly, I am comfortable & happy in my newly renovated place.
